Topics in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
In January 2023, I joined the University of Hull as a lecturer (assistant professor). As my department (data science, AI, and modelling) was keen to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), I proposed to design a course teaching topics in EDI. I have researched or am researching the following at the moment. If you are a student or member of staff at the university and have other ideas, please write to me (my hull.ac.uk email).
Explored
- Linguistic justice.
- Microaggressions.
- Cultural appropriation.
- Neurodiversity.
- Inclusive education.
In progress
- Patriarchy.
- Gender identity and sexuality.
- Intersectionality.
- Effective allyship.
- Critical race theory.
- Decolonisation.
In 2023, I spoke about linguistic justice at the Sustainable Development Goals Conference (slides), as well as our business school's Business Briefing session (slides) during Humber Business Week.
In 2024, I prepared and delivered a departmental seminar (slides) about microaggressions, including cultural appropriation. As a part of the May 2024 cohort's induction, I taught them the strategy of languaging (slides) and shared some practical tips with them (slides).
In 2025, I explored two related topics: neurodiversity and inclusive education (slides).
